Great day out and tour with James! Saw some historic sites whilst leisurely enjoying the day with friends. The stories were memorable. Posted on Kim S Verified A brilliant way to get to know Winchester
Had a highly enjoyable tour of Winchester with the lovely James as our guide! Winchester is full of fascinating little details and stories, and James brought them all to life in a really engaging and entertaining way. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the place, which made the whole experience even better. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Winchester — and especially if you get James as your guide! 😊 Posted on Tam Verified Fantastic tour of Winchester
We had a fantastic tour with James for a group of 16 people. He’s really knowledgeable and passionate and made the history come to life. Posted on Mike P Verified Wonderful Winchester
We had booked as a 4 and expected to be joining other guests but with no one else booked it felt like a personal tour.... We were met by Christine who was to be our tour guide for the afternoon - leaving on time, we had a fact-filled 90+ minute tour of the lower city. Starting with Alfred the Great, we then moved onto a River Itchen stroll, a walk around Wolvesey Castle and the schools of Winchester, St Swithins church, Jane Austens house, before finishing at the cathedral. Throughout the tour Christine provided rafts of information about the history of Winchester answering any questions we had, and taking the time to ensure we were enjoying the experience. A great afternoon led by a knowledgeable and chatty guide... Posted on Wilfred A Verified Excellent Well informed tour
I visited Winchester in November and, by accident, I ended up having a private tour even though this was meant to be a group tour as I was the only person to turn up. I met my tour guide, Liz Carew, who was an experienced and qualified tour guide. Liz was great. She spoke clearly and was well informed and gave me a great introduction to the history of WInchester from ancient times to modern. She took me around all the key sites including Winchester College and some ancient ruins (whose names I have forgotten.) I appreciate that this tour came from the Tourist Information Centre and by a qualified guide. I felt I gained an excellent insight into the history of this historic city. Posted on Mary W Verified Walking tours of Winchester and Salisbury with James
I spent five days at Christmas with Newmarket Travel's England's Historic South, and two excursions they provided was Winchester on 24th December and Salisbury on the 26th. Both walks were conducted by the same guide - James. James obviously loves his subject and although he knew all the dates, he made history live for us by his stories and anecdotes. People remember stories more than dates and our whole group was totally engaged - plenty of questions which he answered without hesitation! Prodigious knowledge and an easy, light-hearted delivery. Brilliant guide. Posted on ItchyfeetHelen Verified A really good walking tour
Diane was an excellent guide, even making a seasonal theme of 'gifting' around this fascinating city. She was entertaining as well as knowledgeable. I really recommend taking this walking tour, as it means you learn about what you are seeing in the city! Posted on Climber39366323461 Verified Wonderful Winchester
Rona was an amazing tour guide who was very passionate about her town! She was extremely knowledgable and gave us an excellent insight into the history of Winchester. She was very inclusive and brought the group together. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. Posted on Stuart B Verified Walking tour of Winchester
This is the 2nd tour that James has arranged for us. Another very interesting guided walk around Winchester this time, with lots of facts and anecdotes, delivered with knowledge and humour, and tailored to suit our group. Salisbury next! Posted on steve w Verified Our guide James gave us a great evening tour around historic Winchester. Hope to see him again, when we do similar in Salisbury.
James was very knowledgeable and adjustd the tour to our preferences and weather on the evening. Will be using home again.
